St. Paul's annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner was held on March 8th.  The food was delicious.  We salute the Men's Club for a job well done.

The Tradition of Shrove Tuesday

Shrove Tuesday is the day preceding Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.  The word shrove is the past tense of the English verb, shrive, which means to obtain absolution for ones sins by way of confession and doing penance.  Shrove Tuesday is often observed by celebratory eating of rich foods made with eggs, sugar and butter, such as pancakes.  Making and eating such foods was considered a last feast before Lent.
